OrganicCord: use Discord on PC with less RAM

What is OrganicCord?

OrganicCord is a desktop client for using Discord on Windows, created by aMathyzin. It brings servers, messages, friends, notifications, and voice calls into a leaner app for people who want to leave more PC resources for games, work, or other tasks while they chat.

Sign in with your Discord account and you will find a familiar layout: servers on the left, conversations in the middle, and profile and call controls close at hand. The project is free and open source; you can explore it in the official GitHub repository.

A lighter app for your day

Resource use is the main draw. According to the project's comparison, OrganicCord can use up to seven times less RAM and take up up to ten times less installation space than the original Discord app. Results depend on the version, computer, and activity; they are not a guarantee for every setup.

That can matter when you keep Discord open while gaming, studying, editing video, or using a laptop with limited memory. The idea is simple: stay in your conversations without dedicating as many resources to one app.

Chat, join communities, and stay organized

For everyday use, you can browse servers and channels, group servers in folders, reorder them, and chat in text channels or direct messages. Send files and images, reply to, edit, or delete your own messages, and use Markdown, emojis, reactions, and polls.

The app also displays media, links, embeds, and voice messages. Search older messages, check pinned posts, and use forums to browse topics, create posts, and reply. Typing indicators, presence, and profiles help you follow conversations in real time.

In the friends area, you can view your list, add or remove people, block or unblock contacts, and invite them to servers when you have permission. In DMs, you can start chats and close or archive conversations you do not need to keep in view.

Multiple accounts in one app

If you keep separate personal, community, work, or project accounts, add them to OrganicCord and switch between them without opening another app. The account switcher also lets you remove accounts and use stealth mode to hide them from the visible list when you want more privacy on screen.

You can also view profiles, status, mutual friends, and mutual servers. Set your presence to online, idle, do not disturb, or invisible, and add a custom status.

Voice calls with the controls you need

OrganicCord already lets you join voice channels and make DM calls, including receiving, answering, and declining calls. During a conversation, mute the microphone, deafen audio, switch input and output devices, test the microphone, and enable noise suppression.

The call screen shows participants and connection information. For people who mainly use Discord to talk while gaming, this is one of the beta's most useful features.

Make OrganicCord your own

Choose from light, dark, midnight, and pure black themes, adjust colors, density, and message size, and even change the app icon. Configurable keyboard shortcuts make your frequent actions faster.

You can update your avatar, bio, and profile accent color; banners still depend on your Discord account eligibility, such as Nitro. The app can detect running games and publish Rich Presence when Discord Desktop is also open.

Native Windows notifications, mention alerts, and unread counts help you keep up. If a server, channel, or person sends too many alerts, you can mute them.

What is not available yet?

OrganicCord is in beta. Video calls, watching another person's video, screen sharing, and Go Live are not working yet. Activities, soundboard, and Stage Channels are also unavailable. The beta described in the repository has no automatic updates and no official Linux or macOS support.

It is an unofficial Discord client. Service changes may affect compatibility or make some features behave differently. If you rely on particular features or use an important account, keep the official app installed as a fallback.

How to download and install on Windows

1. Open the v0.2.0-beta.2 release page on GitHub and download OrganicCord_0.2.0-beta.2_x64-setup.exe from the release assets. Prefer the official release page over third-party mirrors.

2. Run the installer on a Windows 10 or 11 PC with WebView2. Then open OrganicCord and sign in to your Discord account to use messages, servers, and calls.

3. This beta installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows may warn about an unknown publisher. Make sure the file came from the official release and check its SHA-256 hash against the value in the repository README before deciding to install. Do not disable Windows security features to run the app.

An open project on GitHub

OrganicCord's source code is available in the official GitHub repository. You do not need programming skills to install the app; the page also helps you follow updates, read instructions, and see where your download comes from.

OrganicCord is developed by aMathyzin and released under the MIT license. For everyday users, the simplest path is to download the installer from the releases page without compiling anything.

Is it worth trying?

If you use Discord for messages, communities, and voice and want a lighter Windows app, OrganicCord already offers plenty to try. Multiple accounts and interface customization are useful extras for everyday use.
